Why the decision to study Safety and Security/what was the motivation?

My motivation is based on the motto: "If you want to change something, you have to become active yourself".
For me, climate change is one of the biggest challenges mankind is facing right now. Therefore, the emissions of greenhouse gases, especially CO2, must be reduced significantly. One of the main producers of CO2 is the energy sector, whose processes were based on fossil fuels for decades. In order to achieve the climate targets, new technologies must therefore be developed so that the share of sustainable energies increases significantly.

 

What is exciting about environmental and energy process technology?

Environmental and Energy Process Engineering is an engineering degree with a focus on process engineering that deals with current challenges in the field of environmental protection and energy technology. In the basic study period, students gain insights into the scientific, engineering and mathematical fundamentals and then specialize in their chosen specialization in the Master's program. Since a basic understanding of technologies and systems is conveyed, the range of application is very diverse. For example, one can simulate the flow of wind turbines, work in the field of recycling and reusable materials processing, deal with energy-efficient building technology, etc. . The possible spectrum is felt to have no limits.

 

Why Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg?

I am originally from Berlin and had to listen to many times: "and then you moved to Magdeburg? But I must say that I am still very happy to have decided to study at OvGU. The contact with the professors is not so impersonal, the teachers are very eager to teach the students and because Magdeburg is not so big, a feeling of community is created. Furthermore, OvGU is comparable to large elite universities such as Dresden in the field of process engineering research.

 

Which requirements and interests should I bring along for the studies?

The higher education entrance qualification brings with it every prerequisite for studying engineering. A certain understanding of natural sciences and technology is advantageous, but I am nevertheless firmly convinced that everyone can complete their studies with sufficient curiosity, willingness to learn and self-organisation.

 

What do I do now?

I work at Sunfire GmbH as a project engineer. This means that I adapt our systems to customer requirements and put them into operation.
 

Short company demolition

Sunfire develops and produces plants for the production of renewable technical gases and fuels. These substitutes for oil and gas replace fossil fuels in existing infrastructures as e-gas, e-fuel or e-chemicals. The most important component is the steam electrolyzer, which is based on Sunfire's solid oxide cell technology and breaks down not only liquid but also gaseous water into its constituent parts. The solid oxide cells used for the conversion process are also used as generators to produce electricity and heat.
