Application

    In the following you will find some application information that will help you make an informed choice. We advise you to check our web presentation in order to assess whether your academic goals and qualifications are compatible with the M.Sc. program contents. If you decide to apply to our graduate program, please make sure to observe the valid application deadline and hand in completed documents.

    Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg is a member university of uni-assist and all applications for admission from candidates who have obtained their Bachelor's degree, University Diploma or similar abroad will be checked by uni-assist

    Your full set of documents (including all language certificates) and your application fee must have been received by uni-assist by the closing date for applications (January 15th for the summer semester and July 15th for the winter semester) to your chosen course of study. After completing the online application form, you can also upload documents to the uni-assist portal. Then you have to print out the form, sign it in person and send it together with all necessary documents in paper form directly to uni-assist. Please do not send any documents to the university before you are requested to do so. Uni-assist will let you know if your application has been forwarded to the university. The University will then contact you within approximately three weeks (this is the maximum length of time, usually it is quicker).

    This process enables you to apply to several uni-assist member universities at once whilst only needing to submit one set of certified and translated documents. Uni-assist will let you know in good time whether or not your documents are complete and whether your evidence of qualifications fulfills the formal requirements for the course of study of your choice.

    How does Applying via uni-assist work?

    For the application we expect a minimum bachelor mark of good in the German scale. This is equivalent to a GPA below 2.30 or ECTS=B. Admission depends on the number of the competing applicants.

    The international master's degree course CEE is offered completely in English. Applicants will need to provide evidence of adequate knowledge of English, generally a TOEFL certificate

    Here is a complete list of the recognized tests and certificates:

    • TOEFL (normally at least 80 points internet based/213 points computer based/550 points paper based;
    • Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) (usually with a minimum grade C);
    • Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) (usually with a minimum grade B);
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (minimum score band 6).

    Native speakers from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the USA are exempted from these requirements. Applicants from other countries must provide TOEFL scores, even if English is an official language in their country.

    Hint: Applicants in the frame of a partnership program can send the application documents in aggregated order directly to our university.
