Cooperation between Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg and University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy Sofia Students and Scientists
July 01. - 24.2015 the FVST welcomed students and their supervisors (Dr. Ani Stoilova, Dr. Evgeni Kraichev, as well as Dr. Mutavchieva) to Magdeburg for an exchange of ideas. All of the students are participating in the german language study programme for process engineering at the University for Chemical Technology and Metallurgy Sofia.
A diverse programme awaited the participants. Site visits such as those to Glatt Integrated Process Solutions GmbH, the sludge processing factory in Gerwisch, Pergande GmbH in Weißandt-Gölzau, and the waste-to-energy plant in Magdeburg-Rothensee were part of the itinerary, as were the University Hamburg-Harburg, especially the Institute of Solids Process Engineering and Particle Technology, the Max-Planck-Institute and the Fraunhofer-Institute in Magdeburg.
Likewise, the Chemical, Process and Systems Engineering, Equipment and Environmental Technology, Physics, and Material Science Institutes hosted the stay. On the weekends they led trips to Berlin and Leipzig; especially, however, they got to know our beautiful city of Magdeburg a little better.
For over 20 years, close cooperation in the areas of education and research has existed between the two educational institutions. Specific focus lies in the education of Bulgarian students through the UCTM's German language study programme. This programme is funded by the DAAD and has been in existance since 1990; during this time, more than 300 students and instructors from the Sofia University have stayed in Magdeburg, with a similar number of members of our university having visited Sofia.
More than 10 Bulgarian graduates have successfully defended their dissertation.
An especially close and successful cooperation in a scientific field exists in the fluidized bed technology research complex, a key focus at the OVGU.
The picture shows visiting students, their supervisors, as well as German students participating in the research complex NAWITEC (Junior Research Group for Fluidized Bed Technology), which is led bei Jr. Prof. Andreas Bück and works closely with the industrial growth center WIGRATEC (fluidized bed granulation technology) under leadership of Prof. Evangelos Tsotsas.
All students enjoyed the internship; they returned to Sofia with many new impressions.
