Institute of Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics Rows Against Cancer
The fundraiser Rowing Against Cancer on 19 June 2016 was held in Magdeburg for the first time. In this initiative by the Living with Cancer Foundation, amateurs compete against each other in a charity race during a sporting event. A total of 60 teams took part in this regatta. In support of this project the Otto von Guericke University’s Institute of Thermodynamics and Fluid Dynamics sent the two teams, “ISUT 1 – Hot Air” and “ISUT 2 – Hot Oven”, to the starting line. Since synchronized rowing in a 4-person boat with the required technique can be quite the challenge, multiple practice rounds were completed on the Elbe before the competition. This was worth the effort; both teams were able to fight their ways to the semifinal during the regatta. All participants agreed: “The charity race and the accompanying program was a fantastic event. Rowing in a 4-person boat is really a lot of fun and we’ll do it again next time!”
