Research
Chemical and Energy Engineering in Magdeburg
Synthesis, analysis, interpretation and realization of complex technical processes
Establishing the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering at the Otto von Guericke University, as well the Max-Planck-Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems (MPI) in Magdeburg provides ideal conditions for internationally oriented advanced research in process engineering.
Concept
The faculty’s scope contains the entire field of physical, chemical or biological material transformation processes. While analyzing these processes, the concept of basic operations was developed and successfully applied. Processes, which have basic similarities, are divided into different groups with consistent descriptions. Due to the usage of this concept in recent decades, numerous basic operations have been described quantitatively, which helps in designing and optimizing several machines. Further improvements for material transformation processes will be achieved by subsequent developments.
Main Research Topics
The main research subjects of the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering and the MPI are as follows:
- Dynamics of process engineering and technical systems
- Computer aided modeling and simulation
- Multi functional and unsteady processes
- New conceptions for the processes
- Integrated and coupled processes
- Network Theory
- Solid Process Engineering
- Process integrated environmental protection engineering
